Commercial Evaluations

http://youtu.be/M7-KYW_FgqM
This commercial is for the candy brand, M&M's.  The visual style for the film is mostly live action but animation is used for the M&M characters.  There is a happy and funny theme to the the commercial.  The target audience of the commercial could be considered the younger generation due to overall concept of the commercial. The idea of teenagers giving Mom a hard time would make it appear it is generated at that audience although it could have a target audience of all groups. The product's commercial is solving problem of hunger and targeting sweets cravings. There is no narrator and all commentary is from the characters.  Overall, I would say it is a very successful commercial. It's catchy, clever, and funny.  The M&M characters used are a staple for a the company. They are a big hit in the success of the company and its advertisements.

This is a commercial advertisement for the Ipod Nano.  The visual style for the commercial is strictly animation.  The tone to the ad could be considered light hearted, enjoyment or happy. Younger generations would be the target audience because the commercial use's Nemo, the character from the children's cartoon film, Finding Nemo.  The product's commercial is solving the problem for a personal music player.  It expresses how important the Nano is and how bad people want to have one.  The noises of the commercial are mostly only action noises from the character ass well as the song, "Feel Good" by the gorillaz. Also, at the end of the ad there is brief narration.  As a whole, I believe the commercial is very effective. It uses a character and theme that many can relate to and is generated towards a great target audience for the specific product.

This is a new Florida orange juice commercial.  The visual style for the commercial is mostly live action with multiple human characters but some graphic design for text and logo's. The main character for the ad is a young boy around the age of 12 and in turn the general target audience would be younger generations.  The problem that the product and commercial is solving is being able to handle life's stresses and responsibilities.  The commentary is mostly from the characters within the commercial but their is some brief narration to wrap the commercial up.  This commercial intrigued me the most from the commercials I've viewed thus far. It attacks the issues that are extremely important to almost the entire general population.  The actors in the commercial also do a fantastic job.

This is a commercial for ESPN's sportscenter.  The visual style for the commercial again is almost purely live action besides the logo and text graphics.  The commercial is designed to create interest into the television program. The commercial uses many high profile sports figures to target sport's fans of all demographics that can relate.  The ad doesnt necessarily solve a particular problem, it just recomends a sports program that all just watch.  The commentary is strictly from the actors within the commercial. This is one of the many incredibly successful commercials that ESPN has constructed.  It incorperates big names for the company as well as major league baseball as well as has a very funny tone and joke to it.

Here is another commercial for ESPN.  The visual style for this commercial is mostly stop motion just using pictures of a man and the various relationships he's had over time as well a few graphics for text and the ESPN logo.  The tone/theme to the commercial is that of love and loyalty but also is very funny at the same time.  Generally, the commercial could be considered as targeted towards males but also the target audience could be sports fan's of any race, gender or generation.  There is no commentary to the commercial only a song.  This commercial as ESPN commercials typical are, are very enjoyable to me. Although I am a big fan of the program, fall into the target audience and can relate to each one; they always construct clever effective advertisements.  In turn, they are largest sports broadcasting/news program world wide.

Arf business card

This is the front and back layout of my company's business card. For the front, I chose to place just the logo along with a slogan/question to display what the business entails.
The back of the card is simple as well but has all the necessary information.  It contains the business name, all contact information and a statement regarding its credibility.

Company Questions

     1) What is your business?
My Business is a dog dating service called ARF.  Our website is used to help dog owners find companions  for their dogs.

2)Describe your business in one sentence.
ARF, is a company that enables and assists pet owners in finding friendship and happiness for    their dogs.

3)Who is your target audience?
Dog owners of all ages, ethnicity, and gender.

4)Who are your competitors?
           datemypet.com , doggie-dating.co.uk , usefultools.com

     5) What makes them better/worse than your product/service?
doggie-dating.co.uk is one of the first dog dating websites ever created and in turn is a respected company and has history.  Many other sites are very average and seem to have a small target audience.

     6) Do you currently have an identity? (This is more for companies that are already established and you’re just revamping the logo/corporate identity. If you have a new company or product, skip this question.)
Yes, the company's identity/name is ARF!, Advanced Relationship Finders.  The Logo represents two happy gentle dogs in a "companionship".

7)What do you like about it and what don’t you like about it?
Why is this important? Even if you plan to change the logo entirely, it’s good to keep an inventory about what specifically worked and didn’t work about your previous design in order to inform the new one.
I like the company name itself, the way the title and abbreviation fits in with the company ideals.  The logo is rough but the overall concept of the logo I believe I will continue to use.

8)How do you want your image to be seen in two years?
The company should be well established and have a high quality of content and past successful stories. ARF! should be scene as a serious service that everyday citizens use.

9)If your company was an animal, what animal would it be and why?
                A dog, obviously.

      10) If your company/brand was a person, who would it be and why?
Novak Djokovic, because he is a famous respected athlete which brings a smile to many faces and a huge public acknowledged dog owner/lover.

      11) If your company/brand was an object, what would it be?
A Bone.  A object which portrays happiness for dogs.

      12) If your customer was a cartoon character, who would it be?
Snoopy, a cartoon dog loved by other dogs, kids and families around the country.

Desert collage

I began with a blank yellow background. Then, blended and used different gradients for the background color.  The Sun was then integrated into the picture and blended as well.  Next was the bird on the branch and I put that image in a bit more hazy than the others.  I then put in the cacti and desert surface scene.  I tried to give the desert image as if it was fading away or possibly in an afterthought or illusion. I don't know if it ended up working that way.

photograph illustrator design- Tyson

Friendship:
The photograph used is of my boxer Tyson.  I began the illustration with the pen tool for the outline of his body. I also used the pen tool for his eyes and mussel.  For the rest of the illustration, wrinkles, eye patches etc I used the pencil tool.  It was difficult to create colors that were visible through layers and match Tyson's actual coat colors but in the end they appear very similar.

ARF illustrater logo

I decided to go with the ARF business concept, Advanced Relationship Finders. It is a Dog dating website.  I used a friendly likeable sketch idea as well as left it pretty simple. Because it is a dog friendship web site, I chose to use two dogs and making them appear male and female.  I incorporated the banner/ business name within the dog graphic attempt to blend the whole picture together and the heart to symbolize a likeable successful company. Overall, as you can see I went with a real manly look and concept for my business...

Logos

See full size image

See full size imageDay one fitness- What interests me the most is the company's name which is directed and enticing to the largest majority of people.  The logo itself also is ingenious with its simplicity as well as calendar resemblance.

Bananasfilms- The logo is creative and interesting.

See full size imageNike- The swoosh has a distinct look to it. Although I am a biased judge
seeing that i've grown up in a Nike era, it is very attracting to me.

Apple- It is very simple and obviously directly correlated with the company name
which could be considered a smart move.

STX- Another simple logo but basically only incorperates the companys name.  It
gets the idea across and no one will ever be confused but to me could have
                                       something else to it.

Introduction: First session in the Blogging World

Hello everyone,
My name is Joseph Herbert. I was born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland.  For those of you unfamiliar it's on the west coast of the Chesapeake Bay and the capital of Maryland. Actually at one time the capital of the United States.  I am a new student here at UT; I transfered this semester as a lacrosse recruit for the newly developed UT Div II lax program.  I am a huge water and boat enthusiast, spending countless summers involved in watersports and recreation on the Bay.  Also a beach and warm weather fan; But of course UT's academic's is what brought me down here...Im also a big sports fanatic, playing basketball, football, and lacrosse throughout my life and high school. More importantly, I am feeling incredibly lucky that I was able to bring my best friend down to tampa with me, my boxer (dog) Tyson.  Overall, I look forward to enjoying the experience and everything UT and the city of Tampa has to offer.
